FREE Gyotaku Event at Sydney Fish Markets - 7 JUNE

Take an award-winning chef, add sustainable seafood and an ancient Japanese fish printing method called Gyotaku and you have the most unique art & dining experiences at Pipit Restaurant.

Lead by chef-owner and printmaker Ben Devlin, he’ll be sharing this special art process in a free public event at the Sydney Fish Markets on Sunday 7 June

Using local seafood sourced from the market (thanks GetFish Seafood) , Ben will create an ocean scene across the day using multiple fish and share about how Gyotaku connects art, sustainable seafood and food menus. There’s plenty of chances to get involved, too.  Watch and ask questions as he works and try the ink-printing yourself with shells to take a print home.

SEAFOOD EXTENDER PROGRAM
This event is part of the "Seafood Extender" Program bringing live art performances into the heart of the new Sydney Fish Market from May to October 2026.  Shaped by water, seasonality and place, “Seafood Extender” reimagines the market as more than a place to buy seafood, it’s a space for connection, culture and exchange. The program is curated by Cultural Capital, Daniel Mudie Cunningham, and commissioned by NSW Placemaking.

SEAFOOD EXCELLENCE AWARD

Pipit Restaurant also recently won the 2026 Sydney Fish Market (NSW) Seafood Excellence Restaurant Award for delivering exceptional fine-dining, seasonal produce and sustainable seafood. This recognised Pipit for contributing towards a positive public profile for the seafood industry, through its unique integration of Gyotaku art printing, alongside extraordinary culinary creativity including fish fat caramels, single origin garums, fish bone flour and fish hams. The NSW Award winners go to the National Seafood Awards in July 2026 - fingers crossed!
